The battery straddle carriers, which will come with two automated charging stations, handle containers 1-over-3 high with twin-lift capability and will be delivered in Q3 2024. The 17 hybrid Konecranes Noell Straddle Carriers are also twin-lift, stacking 1-over-3, and will be delivered at the end of this year through early 2024.

APMT Barcelona turned to Konecranes for low-emission and zero-tailpipeemission straddle carriers to help them achieve its decarbonisation commitment. APMT has ambitious targets to reduce carbon emissions by 70% up to 2030 and achieve net zero by 2040. This will require the adoption of innovative and sustainable container handling equipment such as battery straddle carriers.

“The high-performance, reliable, lowemission and zero-tailpipe-emission container handling equipment that APMT has ordered from Konecranes will contribute significantly to achieving their decarbonisation targets. We’re especially proud to have APMT as the first company globally to order battery-powered Konecranes Noell Straddle Carriers, and we look forward to working with APMT as we move the container handling industry towards decarbonisation,” said Hubert Foltys, director business line straddle carriers, Konecranes.

Jelle Burger, APMT program lead electrification pilots, said: “We are excited to team up with Konecranes for batterypowered straddle carriers as a big step towards decarbonising our industry.”
