Konecranes has received an order for six rubber tired gantry (RTG) cranes from SSA Marine.  The parties have agreed not to disclose the value of the order.
The cranes are for its Mexican cargo terminal SSA Mexico, Manzanillo in Colima.  They will be delivered during the fourth quarter of 2008.The six RTGs will be used to provide “flexible, high capacity container handling,” according to Konecranes. The 16-wheel RTGs have a lifting capacity of 50t and can stack one over six containers high and six wide plus a truck lane.
There are 18 Konecranes RTGs in the Manzanillo port, the first of which were installed at the end of 1990s.The port of Manzanillo is the largest port in Mexico and a prime port of entry to the country, with an annual capacity of 1.41million TEUs.
“Our cooperation with Konecranes has run very smoothly,” said Troy Hatherell, general manager at SSA Mexico.”The RTGs ordered are high-efficiency cranes with modern technology. With these new cranes we are looking to increase productivity at our port.”
