Energy chain specialist Igus GmbH has launched a medium-voltage single core power cable, the CF, for special requirements in travelling crane applications.

The level of performance data for crane systems is constantly rising. As a result, component requirements are also increasing. This particularly applies to mobile power supply systems in longitudinal travel paths. Characteristic features here include the need for high power transmission, heavy-duty cabling and high travel speeds over long distances.

Flexibility and bending resistance are important requirements of the new cable which has a fine strand copper conductor with individually tinned wires. The inner conducting layer is electro-conductive rubber and has an insulating covering of heat-resistant and ozone-proof EPR (ethylene-propylene rubber). To ensure proper shielding, a bend-resistant, tinned copper shield was developed. The TPE-O outer sheathing is resistant to flame, bending and oil contamination.

Currently available are six single-core cross-sections with nominal AC voltage ratings between 6kV and 10kV (other voltages are available).

Due to the high additional loads and long travel distances of 800m and more, the use of this cable in roll-type energy chain systems is recommended.
