NORD Drivesystems has outlined its sustainability strategy for 2025, prioritising environmentally conscious practices, responsible actions, and integrity. The strategy, developed by a cross-divisional team including management and ownership, reflects the company’s commitment to sustainability in its products and operations.

Carolin von Rönne, head of Process and Organisational Development & Corporate Sustainability Management, highlighted that the strategy is a promise to customers, the public, and NORD itself to act in an ecological, economic, and socially responsible manner. The five key pillars of the strategy focus on products, governance and processes, environmental impact, people, and the supply chain.

At the heart of the strategy is a focus on NORD’s products, as they play a significant role in energy consumption across various industries. The company has embedded sustainability into the product development process, with a goal of reducing CO₂ emissions. One such initiative is the introduction of the IE5+ synchronous motor, a highly efficient drive solution aimed at reducing energy consumption. The NORD ECO service also supports customers in identifying the most efficient drive solutions to suit their needs.

Since launching its sustainability management system in 2022, NORD has made significant strides, including the publication of an annual sustainability report in line with the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) standards, securing environmental certifications, and integrating international structures. The company’s goal is to establish an international governance structure and CSRD-compliant reporting for its 48 subsidiaries across 36 countries, acknowledging the critical role governance plays in achieving environmental, energy, and climate objectives.

Environmental management has been a key focus for NORD, with the company aligning its practices with ISO14001 for its largest subsidiaries and establishing group-wide climate balance for Scope 1–3. In addition to reducing energy consumption and waste, NORD plans to increase its use of renewable energy and expand biodiversity areas. The company is committed to further enhancing its environmental performance and supporting the global transition to a more sustainable future.

NORD is also investing in its workforce, recognising the importance of attracting and retaining talent amidst a global skills shortage. The company is rolling out a global digital learning management system to enable employees to develop their skills. Furthermore, NORD is actively promoting diversity, inclusion, human rights, and workplace safety, with a focus on fostering a positive work culture and continuous knowledge transfer.

In terms of its supply chain, NORD is taking steps to ensure sustainable production practices are upheld throughout its manufacturing facilities and across the supply chain. The company conducts risk analyses and adheres to the Germany Act on Corporate Due Diligence Obligations in Supply Chains (LKSG) to guarantee that sustainability remains a priority.
