Alcan Rolled Products, Corus, St Regis Paper and Jaguar are some companies in the UK that have recently placed orders with Konecranes UK.

Aluminium company Alcan Rolled Products has ordered a 15t Goliath crane to lift lids from the soaking pits where there is intensee heat. The crane is equipped with heat shields for protection.

The crane, to be delivered in November, features DynaHoist and DynAC invertor variable speed control, radio control with backup fixed control station on the crane, directional limit switches on travel motion, floodlights and condition monitoring. Because of the high temperatures, the control panel will be remote from the crane and connected via a festoon system. The crane has a man riding platform connected to the outside of one end carriage for the operator to be able to move with the crane when required The order follows delivery to Alcan in May of a 60t cassette handling crane.

For Corus, at Immingham, Konecranes UK is delivering its third SM double girder crane in August. The 20t SWL crane has a 3.75m span and is also fitted with invertor controls, as well as Remox radio control with a backup pendant, directional limit switches on travel/traverse motions, floodlights, rain covers and condition monitoring. The order is worth £70,000 ($100,000).

St Regis Paper in Newport has ordered a paper handling crane with two 32t SM Spacemaker hoists to operate over the wet and dry ends of the main paper machine. Because the production process produces corrosive hydrogen sulphide gas, Konecranes has designed a crane with no open copper, brass or untreated steel fittings. The crane and hoists feature true vertical lift, with dual speeds on all motions and load summation between hoists to ensure a maximum of 32t on the main girders.

At Jaguar’s Halewood plant, Konecranes UK has won an extension to a modernisation contract. Part of the work was completed in April and involved replacing an old open winch type trolley on a 1962 crane with a modern SM trolley with invertor variable speed control. The radio systems have been upgraded and the long travel drives replaced. Now the old winch machinery is being replaced with SM Spacemaker trolleys on two cranes along with new invertor controls on all motions. Work is scheduled to be completed in August.
