A derivation from Sprint Electric’s PL/X range of digital DC drives, JL/X drives are capable of controlling slip ring motors in both two and four quadrant modes, allowing accurate control of external slip ring resisters on crane hoists as well as for crane movement along the x and y axis.

The JL/X range essentially offers the same level of functionality as the PL/X drives, with the main difference between the two series being the thyristor stack’s configuration.

In the new series, this allows for three-phase output throughout the range, which covers output currents from 100 to 1850 amps. The JL/X series comes in three frame sizes with standard supply voltage inputs of up to 480 VAC.

All models have the high current 3 phase supply terminals in standard top entry, with the motor connections being bottom entry.

To provide precision digital motor control for slip drive motors on even larger cranes, Sprint Electrics provides a heavy-duty option: the JL/XHD.

The JL/XHD has an increased overload capacity of 250%, compared to the standard 150% for the series, with optional high voltage units capable of receiving AC supply voltages up to 690 VAC for more power intensive applications.

JL/X products are all supplied pre-configured for crane control, with joystick or analogue demand inputs and outputs for control of the external slip ring resistors.

They also feature dedicated outputs for super-synchronous regenerative lowering and brake control.

The JL/X range shares the same hardware and software platforms as the PL/X range, so all fieldbus communications options (including Profibus, DeviceNet, CC-Link, EtherNet/IP, Modbus and CANopen) and its configuration packages are also compatible with the JL/X drives.

Sprint Electric will be exhibiting the new JL/X range of motor drives at the SPS/IPC/Drives international trade fair for electric automation systems and components in Nuremburg, Germany, from 23 to 25 November 2010.
