Tecnalia has partnered with JASO on a project involving its cable-driven robotics.
The cables ensure safety in hazardous operations, reduces the number of occupational accidents, increases precision and operational productivity, and adapts to multiple tasks and sectors, improving the versatility of industrial operations.
One of the most outstanding applications is a cable-driven robot for vertical work on façades, which increases safety and efficiency on site.
Tecnalia has an application that implements computer vision in a cable-driven robot to calculate the volume of biomass in a warehouse, as well as enabling 3D printing of large-scale construction parts with biodegradable materials.
Other jobs have been automated such as wind turbine blade sanding, handling and 90-degree rotation of bus panels and the loading and unloading of parts in machines that have to be moved vertically.
Finally, a platform has been introduced that integrates a cable robot to clean the seabed, removing rubbish with minimal ecological impact.
“These innovations are a crucial breakthrough for smart manufacturing, offering automated solutions that improve efficiency, safety and precision in a wide range of industrial applications,” a spokesman said.
“Cable-driven parallel robots are an efficient and cost-effective solution for handling, assembly, inspection and maintenance tasks in sectors such as shipbuilding, renewable energy, aerospace, nuclear industry, civil engineering and logistics.
“These robots, which stand out for their flexibility and versatility, handle up to six degrees of freedom, can be easily installed without major modifications to structures and require minimal maintenance.”
Cable-driven robots allow precise movements and are used in the production of large parts, inspection in radioactive areas and 3D printing. These robots are made up of winches, cables, pulleys, a moving platform and a controller.
Applications include handling and assembly of large parts, automation of operations on large parts, fast logistics operations, inspection and maintenance of large spaces, painting and welding of large surfaces, as well as cleaning and façade construction.
