The inner ring truss is 34ft 6in in diameter and is permanently installed and dead-hung from the building steel. The design of the handrail required some special considerations, for example, to make room for the audio equipment to be attached to the inner face of truss, the handrail was divided in certain areas.
The shape of building did not allow room for a handrail on the outside face of the truss. This, coupled with the “divided” handrail, gave the design team a chance to create a unique way to support the catwalk.
Ultimately, the truss was designed with extra support on each side of the handrail breaks and shock absorbers were rigged in line with the catwalk rigging to isolate it from the building steel in the case of a seismic event.
In total, there are 42 dead-hung points that support the catwalk.
