Tsubaki Kabelschlepp has upgraded the cable guiding system on a container crane, owned by logistics provider Contargo Rhein-Waal-Lippe, at the Emmerich river port in Germany.
Using a pre-configured TOTALTRAX solution, the company delivered a turnkey system that was commissioned swiftly, ensuring minimal disruption to operations.
To replace one of its two container cranes, as part of an expansion at the Emmerich river port, Contargo decided to revamp the other crane first.
Tsubaki Kabelschlepp, which previously worked on similar systems at other Contargo locations, received the order for the retrofit in August last year.
Tsubaki Kabelschlepp technical field service Jens Tielmann said: “As Tsubaki Kabelschlepp use their own service engineers, we are able to work with such narrow time windows.
“Our team has the benefit of decades of experience and can use this to always make the right decisions for the situation and for the customer.”
The project, which required maximum operational safety and quick execution, involved replacing two cable carriers during ongoing operations in the shortest time possible.
The cable carrier systems, based on the MC1300 series from Tsubaki Kabelschlepp, feature a gliding opposite arrangement with floating drivers.
They comprise a chain length of 49m and a travel length of 80m, facilitating a maximum additional load of 10kg per metre.
Contargo employs type RM frame stays, which can be easily opened on both sides with four screws, and M series cable carriers are multi-variable with various stay variants.
The cable carriers support a maximum travel speed of 5m/s and an acceleration of 25m/s², meeting the demands of the container crane.
The cable carriers were delivered on a special two-chamber transport drum as a turnkey product, complete with the cable package, enabling rapid on-site installation.
The installation and commissioning process was completed within seven days.
Contargo Rhein-Waal-Lippe managing director Michael Mies said: “TSUBAKI KABELSCHLEPP have once again shown that they cannot only deliver innovative technology, but also have an accurate understanding of our requirements.
“The new system has been running reliably and without problems since its commissioning in October 2024, and we are perfectly set up for the upcoming replacement of our second crane system.”
